JDRF Government Relations

The Promise Campaign is a coordinated effort to schedule and complete as many meetings as possible between representatives and senators and their constituents in their local districts.
The official kick off of the 2010 Promise to Remember Me Campaign in the Greater Bay Area Chapter was Wednesday, August 12th when JDRF constituents met with Congressman George Miller at his district office.  Visit the very cool Promise website to sign up: http://promise.jdrf.org/

Families are encouraged to bring their children, so lawmakers can hear first hand about living with type 1 diabetes. We have seen time and time again how impactful these meetings are for the legislators; when they are making public statements in Washington on issues of interest to people with type 1 diabetes, they often mention the Promise meetings they have had and the children they have met.

It’s easy to attend a Promise meeting in your area.  Sign up online or text PROMISE to 56333.  A Promise Campaign Coordinator will then contact you to help set up your meeting.  Then review the message points and tell your story about diabetes and ask the legislator to “promise to remember you” when making decisions about diabetes. Don’t forget your camera to take a picture of the delegation.

In 2008, JDRF volunteers completed a record 374 meetings. In 2010, JDRF national goal is to set another record by completing 400! Each meeting is chronicled by JDRF volunteers by taking a picture with the legislator and the families that attend. Those pictures are then delivered to each legislator in Washington as a reminder of the meeting.
